To Be Continued...

As I have removed Wordpress from my main site (again, someday I'll learn), I will be updating the BK Report with a lot of updates on completed and in-progress projects! Look forward to it!

I Innovate and Problem Solve - Hire Me

Project 2 - My site is coming along, but I'm having a difficult time finding the correct code for what I want to do.

I have a preloader going to frame 2 when it's finished, then in frame 2 I have a SWF loaded into a MovieClip. What I want to happen is for it to go to frame 3 only after the SWF is finished - I'm looking at the OnComplete function and similar... I'm going to have to keep looking, considering that my only research occurred at 2am last night.

I ended up not going to bed till 3, with an 8am class, and as you can see by the timestamp - I made it to class :-) Of course, the class is Intro to 3D Animation. The Professor is doing critiques right now so I'm making myself busy.

I downloaded the student trial version of Maya 2010 (the version we use on campus), so I'm most comfortable working in it at home. Especially with my precious Wacom Tablet.

ANYWAYS! The site is actually on my main domain now, so head over to http://www.brittanyklopfstein.com to see how it's progressing. Right now there really isn't a background and the fonts aren't embedded, so it's getting close.

Project 1 -

She kind of does something... weird... towards the end there as I'm trying to turn her. I can't figure out how to fix it without completely restarting, but I don't have that kind of time - which makes me upset since I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my work. I'm my own worst critique, and it's exhausting.

JOB SEARCH

I remember when I was in high school - my parents told me that someday I would need to "sell myself" to get a job. In my teenitis I promptly replied with, "I'm never going to sell myself, if they don't want me then that's their problem."

Having said that, I can often recognize a sense of ego in many of my job applications.

I'm a soon-to-be graduate of Media Informatics, a soon-to-be wife, and a soon-to-be-not-living-at-my-parents-house-working-individual. I would like a job. I want to work, and I want to work hard. I'm so passionate about what I do, I really am. Why in the world would I feel it necessary to have an outlet to write out everything I'm doing? I'm excited about it!

It doesn't seem, though, like I am in a position where I can write on an application, "Hey, you NEED me". But I'm here to make a difference, to keep learning for the rest of my life so that I can always be there to teach others. I want my clients to feel like they got lucky when they found me - and that I'm worth the cost.

I have my "dream jobs", don't get me wrong. However, I know where ever I am - so long as it is a creative-encouraging atmosphere and fun people work there - that I'll be perfectly at home. Travis may not see me as much. Even now I get so caught up in my own projects that I lose sleep.

We watched the Pixar movie last night - all about the history of the company. Let me tell you, I would shine their shoes if it meant I could work there. Having any part of their creative process and products would just be fantastic.

A Long Weekend Ahead...

Project 4 - One word: http://muellerfilm.com/

almost done :)

Project 7 - it seems as though I'm the only one that likes the logo, go figure. Apparently my car doesn't look like a car at all. And if I'm lucky enough to talk to someone who does see a car, it's usually a bus or a hearse. *sigh*

Project 1 - I stayed up for a good 4 hours last night creating "cloths", just to have the Spline IK handle to basically fall apart. So I'm currently trying to bind my new "skin" to a set of bones that work from another file. I got it to work last night, but then I started messing with the Paint Weights and it totally crashed. But at least I have the hard part figured out, I think. My environment is done too. It's only one room, but it's a lab and I really want it to look good. So that means I get to start animating and rendering this weekend. I forsee frustration, but that's okay.

Project 6 - I'm talking about the freelance jobs more than I thought I would when I started this blog. Anyways, for Danielle I made up a site http://brittanyklopfstein.com/carson/index.html . It uses some newer CSS and HTML, like there is a gradient in the background and the corners are rounded. Hopefully you can see it. I absolutely love it, even in it's simplicity. However, it's not exactly what she wants. If I remember correctly, she actually prefers a lot of different elements. I really just wanted to get her something to use though, but I guess we'll see what happens.

Other than that, I have a lot of things I'll be doing in the next couple of days. We have a big critique day on Monday and I want to have everything done besides my animation - which I need at least 10 seconds finished, but not the entire thing, luckily.

That means finishing up Project 2 & 3. My site and Skywind. My site is pretty much done besides needing a portfolio page, but Skywind needs some serious work.

Progression

Project 4 - Denis Mueller's site is now live, but only using a basic Wordpress template. All I've done so far is added "adapted and designed by Brittany Klopfstein" in the footer. And made the template editable in the Wordpress editor. I much prefer that.

I would start on the design tonight, but it's 11pm and I have class at 8am. I can't really be productive in class since I personally invested in all the software I need (which includes downloading the free-for-students extended 2010 version of Autodesk Maya) and thus completely work from home anyways. Besides, the MACs in ST120 all have those silly MAC mice that have one button ["Oh, but I do have a double-click! You just have to touch and click me in JUST THE RIGHT WAY or I'm going to COMPLETELY SCREW UP all of your projects!"]. However, I think it should be easy enough to get files I've already created into the design. So I'll try to do that in my classes tomorrow.

Project 7 - Nothing is going on with the S&T site, but I've been asked to e-mail them the logo I created. They just bought a new building (which was a Godsend) and thus need new business cards. I'm personally really proud of the one I created, I hope they like it too.

Project 2 - You can currently see the site in it's current format here. I can't guarantee that the video file in the background will start for you. It's a 56minute long video and isn't compressed in any way that is... well, "functional" for standard web viewing. Yes, it will have a preloader. Yes, I will be re-compressing the video. In fact, I expect that I will completely re-shoot the video.

Project 1 - We had our critiques Monday and my professor said I was doing a good job, so that's a plus. I hope I learn to create cloths though, haha.

Initial Update

Hello all!

I'm heading into the last month of school, so a lot of my projects are near completion.

3D Avatar
Project 1 (Intro to 3D Animation) - I've rigged my 3D project to the point where it is suppose to be, and I've started taking the liberty of adding hair and some accessories the way I see fit. I'm hoping that when the professor returns that he will cover how to add clothing more in-depth; however, it is most likely that I will resort to youtube.com videos and other online tutorials to make sure I get it done on time.

Portfolio Site
Project 2 (Integrated Media) - My new portfolio site is looking good, not great. I love the idea in my mind, but I never seem to produce a site that I feel fully shows off my abilities. Especially since this one is completely in flash. Flash for me is easy, very easy, to feel like I've created something unique that looks good. So to build my site only in Flash seems like a cop-out. Just...easy. However, it will do for the class and I'll make it even more awesome when I have time to focus on it.

Skywind Site
Project 3 (Digital Media Projects) - Skywind, a faux company I am creating from the "ground-up", is coming along. I need to do a few additions to the site before Monday, our new critique day since the professor has been absent (for good reason). Again, designed completely in Flash because I have so much going on this semester that I wanted to make sure I went easy on myself. Flash deals a lot with graphic design - at least the way I see it. Since it's incredibly simple for the user to place objects anywhere they want, it's vital that they have a good sense of composition. That is the only challenge for me, and it's a rather simple one (coming from a graphic design and photography background).

Project 4 (Senior Practicum) - Denis Mueller's site is coming along. We've decided to use Wordpress. I mentioned the word "blogging" and he seemed to light up. He should have the account set up through godaddy.com by next Tuesday when I'll get the FTP information and really start putting this together. Honestly, once I get the design implemented (simple, since we've already agreed on a basic idea), he's given me a TON of information to work with and designing the rest will be simple. He's really excited about it, which makes me excited. Also - possible candidate for a reference letter? :-D

Project 5 (Web Coding) - We're getting around to figuring out what our final sites are going to be. I might attempt to make Project 6 into my assignment, but I might also choose something that I can get done quickly so I can focus on what the Project 6 site needs and not what I'm required to put into the site. Nothing much to show for this class yet, besides this.

All I've done for Danielle so far
Project 6 (Freelance) - I haven't been able to do anything with Danielle's site, which I feel terrible about. She owns a photography studio, which is AWESOME! However, the fact that I haven't produced anything bugs me all the time. I'm really excited that she's asked me to do this for her and I know I haven't delivered in any way that I promised her. My time management skills are still catching up to everything going on in life, and her site has taken the brunt of it.

All I've done for S&T so far
Project 7 (Freelance) - Yes, there is a 7th project! The S&T site for my dad's business partner. Steve runs an auto detailing shop. We had an initial discussion about what he wanted, and I gave him a few "chores" that I give everyone I talk to - pick out three sites you like, choose a color scheme and/or any features you want, and let me know if you need a domain and hosting. He hasn't followed up on that and I haven't heard any from him, so I'm going to assume he's busy and take the time to finish everything else I'm working on.
